Lexly Nirvana

Lexly Nirvana is a freshman rapper and music writer for the Christian Hip hop genre. Some people have asked her why she chose that name? by the reason that its very similar to her actual name, she could of chose her actual name as her stage name, since there is many other rappers that have done that. The reason she chose that name is because when she went to a retreat with her church, there was a girl that she met and soon became good friends with her and she gave her that nickname "Lexly", not only that but it became special to her because that was also when she had accepted Jesus in her heart and told herself that she wouldn't look back to her past failures.
"Nirvana" which means peace, is actually her middle name and she always thought it was something very unique from the rest of people that have middle names.
Lexly, has few songs that she has shared in sound cloud with the mentality of making an EP soon and keep recording more songs. Here is an example of one of her songs.

This past October she just dropped her new music video called "Hold on to me" that talks about what girls tend to deal with the security of being wanted and accepted by a man, despite of knowing the God of the universe and feeling completeness in him. But despite of us trying to control our own lives, God is still with the arms wide open willing to give us another chance, if we repent and come to him. This message of this song was inspired by many of the stories that many of her friends have gone through. You can view the video below.

Christon Gray-The Glory Album

As mention before Christon Gray, parted ways from Collision Records label and joined the Fo Yo Soul Recordings founded by Kirk Franklin. Surprisingly, few days ago, he announced his new album name "The Glory Album" that is scheduled to release February 26,2016. These are his two new single releases.

11Six Mission Statement Changed

This past November, there was a controversy of the label Reach Records changing the about me section. All over social media some fans began bashing the label on how Jesus is not mention anymore. Not to mention the fact that Lecrae and some of the other artists have claim that they are Christian but that does not mean their music is.

Collision Records New Signee

This year after Christon Gray leaving Collision Records and signing to Fo Yo Soul recordings, Collision decided to signed female song writer, worship leader and singer Dianne Michelle.

Coming from Arizona Dianne's music is quite different from that what the label usually produces but it could really make a new sound within the WLAK team.

#SEPARATED AT BIRTH

DEE-1'S MIXTAPE SEPARATED BY BIRTH WAS SCHEDULED  TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 15, 2015 BUT IT WAS CANCELLED.

The reason that it was cancelled was because in the mixtape Dee-1 is rapping to Lil Wayne's most known songs using the same beats, but instead he changes the lyrics to a positive matter.
Dee 1 has frequently times confessed that growing up he looked up to Lil Wayne and everything he will do, knowing that they both come from New Orleans. As he became a Christian and changed now he claims that Lil Wayne's music has a negative impact in the culture we have today.

In Sway in the morning he recalls when they told him not to release the mixtape and it was going to be how the banned.
To summarize it, the day of the release he got a call from his label RCA Inspiration suggesting him not to release the mixtape. The reason being was because Cash Money Records had find out and now RCA had to deal with legal issues, also that it was best for him not to because they could be some physical harm. There was few songs that were able to put out from the mixtape "Separated by Birth."

What about Christian Hip-hop?

When Christian Hip hop started it was known as holy hip hop because of the spiritual background it has referring to Christ. It became known in the middle of 1980 in Nashville, Tennessee and all the way to Los Angeles. As they started few of the singles that they made were M.C. Sweet’s Jesus Christ (The Gospel Beat) and Stephen Wiley’s Bible Break. Unfortunately, the birth of Christian Hip hop was not a success like the actual hip hop had encountered, because they had to deal with being accepted by the church and unbelievers.

Suddenly, a group called DC talk was form in the 1990s composed of Toby McKeehan (Toby Mac), Michael Tait, and Kevin Max Smith in were rap and pop were mixed genre became accepted in the Christian population. Shortly after, Texas initiates invest in growing the Christian Hip Hop label that then was followed by the South and the East Coast of the United States. The invention of the Internet really boost its growth because it was an easier access to the music and its artists.

Now in 2015, we can see  the platform that Christian Hip hop has in the culture artists such as Flame, R-swift and Lecrae and many others have gone more outside audience than just the church. Lecrae recently won a Grammy as the Best Gospel Album and has been featured in not only Christian related shows but also in others like The Jimmy Fallon show, Good Morning America and  many others.

Uncomfortable Review

Andy Mineo's Second album, is definitely something different as mention in blogs before. After listening to his album it surely talks about some of Andy's past experiences and things he has recently encountered that we as listeners can relate and even learn from it.

His first track, that is also named after the album "Uncomfortable"  speaks of the conformity that we people are in and there is a world dying out there.
Here are part of the lyrics "We got legal weed that will keep us high...Where on earth is my Wi-Fi? Stomachs full and our pockets fat, I need love, there's a site for that.. I had more when I had less." sometimes material things or just simple opportunities that we are offered become so important and the things that should be important in our lives become secondary like our relationship with God.

In other of his songs such as "Uptown" he talks about his hometown and his feelings towards it, not to mention his song "Now I Know" how when being a child you are very innocent believing everything society tells you until you find out it was lie or people just playing with you.

His song "Hear my heart" dedicates it to his deaf sister and how he never got to understood her situation but now that his grown he apologizes for his ignorance and understands her.

Something that was never heard in any of the Reach Records artists is this new form of salsa singer that is brought on the song "David's Roof." Ghost is represented by his long past friend experience were it ended as strangers. Love and strange motions talks about his love life and how some people can love money or put other priorities in top of God of love.

Finally it ends with Make a believer, which is one of my favorite songs because its like a prayer it talks about how he keeps messing up with God but he is there for him when he repents. Then he compares how he messes up with people and they in return leave him, but God does not. This song is just great and his feature Mac Powell lead singer for Third Day made a combination.

Is it Really "Uncomfortable"?

Andy Mineo is soon releasing his new album "Uncomfortable" this September 18.

According to his Saturday Morning Car Tunes, what can be expected from his new album is something completely different than previous Heroes For Sale and Never land albums. People that support his music have seen the changes he has gone through like recently got married to his wife Cristina, hosting many more tours not just in the United States but around the world and performing in places like MTV and VH1 others. Within those changes, those close to him with the music  have seen how his way of thinking has also changed. Those changes go deeper in the person he is and all his experiences he has encountered without compromising his beliefs in God. Here is a promo of the album and the run through of the new songs that we will be expecting.

Instagram media #smct episode 2 is out!!! #andymineo #116 #uncomfortable #unashamed #smct3Andy-Mineo-Sat-Morning-Car-Tunez-S3

His fans are definitely looking forward to this new album, by the fact that Andy Mineo is known as a unique artist that his rhymes can not be compared to any other rapper. The question will be ARE HIS FANS GOING TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THIS NEW MUSIC HE IS BRINGING?

A Successful Block Party

Can you imagine...

Invited to a random back to school party.
But you began to debate in going or not going.
Then you began to think that it will be good to distract before school starts.
Because then it will be back to homework, projects, essays and many exams!!!
One of your friend  encourages to go by saying that is going to be a lot of fun because the DJ is really good.
Finally she hands you out an invitation.

Please disregard the date, but this invitation was actually hand it out to people. This random party was made into a success and change the course of music. Hip hop was first introduced in 1925 by Earl Tucker but it made history when DJ Kool Herc began to mix beats and began to rap over them in a apartment located in Bronx, New York.  Since, many atists  began to emerge such as Mercedes Ladies, Kurtis Blow that was first signed to a record label to Beastie Boys and Tupac. Hip-hop is now considered one of the most influential types of music in the youth population. In a recent statistics it was shown as the number one influence in the radio formats because it attracts more audience, which is then followed by R&B and pop music.
