What about Christian Hip-hop?

When Christian Hip hop started it was known as holy hip hop because of the spiritual background it has referring to Christ. It became known in the middle of 1980 in Nashville, Tennessee and all the way to Los Angeles. As they started few of the singles that they made were M.C. Sweet’s Jesus Christ (The Gospel Beat) and Stephen Wiley’s Bible Break. Unfortunately, the birth of Christian Hip hop was not a success like the actual hip hop had encountered, because they had to deal with being accepted by the church and unbelievers.

Suddenly, a group called DC talk was form in the 1990s composed of Toby McKeehan (Toby Mac), Michael Tait, and Kevin Max Smith in were rap and pop were mixed genre became accepted in the Christian population. Shortly after, Texas initiates invest in growing the Christian Hip Hop label that then was followed by the South and the East Coast of the United States. The invention of the Internet really boost its growth because it was an easier access to the music and its artists.

Now in 2015, we can see  the platform that Christian Hip hop has in the culture artists such as Flame, R-swift and Lecrae and many others have gone more outside audience than just the church. Lecrae recently won a Grammy as the Best Gospel Album and has been featured in not only Christian related shows but also in others like The Jimmy Fallon show, Good Morning America and  many others.
